Suitable for: |
Self-tuition, adult education, commercial training, secondary and higher education, universities.
|
Concept: |
The approach of Was ist los in Hauptstraße 117? is to take the popular form of television soap opera, to involve the language student with the lives of German speakers in real-life situations, and so help the learner to acquire language that relates to the actuality of contemporary Germany. The soap opera episodes are prefaced by additional video material, which wittily and amusingly reinforce the relevant language concepts, and by written and online material, which ranges from useful exercises to 'fanzine' articles about the characters in the soap opera. The combination of personal involvement (what will happen next?) and personal identification with characters grounded in reality guarantees genuinely instructive entertainment.
